When I was younger, my mom and I always did something special together for Valentine’s Day. She would always have a little surprise waiting in the car when she picked me up from school and, before she and my dad would have their fun, we would have ours. Even when I grew older and started spending the holiday with my own boyfriends, she and I would still make sure to celebrate, even if it was the day before. We made our mother-daughter Valentine’s Day dates a tradition and it’s one that I’m glad we continue to carry out now that I’m an adult.
This year, I was feeling a little blasé about the romantic holiday since my husband is out of the country. Planning a mother-daughter Valentine’s Day date for my partner in crime and me was just what I needed to lift my spirits. I’ve made reservations for what I hope will be the perfect way for us to celebrate our love for one another. At the end of the day, the holiday is all about expressing love, and the love between mothers and daughters is like no other. Regardless of if you’re an adult daughter planning for an adult mother (like me) or an adult mother planning for a young daughter, these mother-daughter Valentine’s Day ideas are sure to sweep your favorite girl off her feet:
Sign up for a cooking class: Ever since I did a Moroccan cooking class during my recent trip to Marrakech, I’ve been hooked! I love the idea of signing you and your mother or daughter up for a fun cooking class in honor of Valentine’s Day. It’s a unique way to bring some fun back into a routine activity and something that you’re sure to remember forever. If you don’t want to go out for a cooking class, you can have your own by teaching your little one how to make her favorite dish or having your mom teach you how to make a dish that you’ve always loved.
Have a spa day: There’s no activity (besides maybe shopping) that my mom and I enjoy more than a spa day. A day of pampering and relaxation is the perfect mother-daughter Valentine’s Day date. Treat your mother or daughter to a day at the day spa or go get mani/pedis. Many places offer kid-friendly services, but if you’d rather do something at home, doing DYI facials and painting each other’s nails is another great option.
See a show: Whether it’s a musical, a play, or a ballet, indulging in the arts is always fun. This Valentine’s Day, grab your mother or daughter and head to a show. It’s a great way to introduce your little one to something new or have a unique experience with your mom. If you’re not much of a stage performance type of person, seeing a movie is always fun as well. A chick flick with your favorite girl is always a good idea!
The relationship that I have with my mom is something that I cherish and we recently announced that we will be launching our very own mother-daughter podcast! The Duo is a podcast dedicated to celebrating the generational differences between mothers and daughters and cultivating closer relationships between the two. The first episode will be available for download on iTunes and GooglePlay on February 1st, but, in the meantime, I invite you to follow us on Instagram, like our Facebook page, and sign up for our email list for updates and mother-daugher inspo!
